The Ghost Village In Raas Al Khaimah – A Fascinating Location For Movies

The ghost town of Al Jazirah Al Hamrah is located in the south of the city of Ras Al Khaimah in UAE. The village is well known for haunted houses and mosques. The town used to be once rules by the Zaab tribe which then migrated to Abu Dhadi due to a conflict in the area. However, some rumors suggest that the residents were forced to leave due to paranormal activities. Film directors often come looking for such areas that provide an appropriate setting for the vibe of their movie.

Netflix original film 6 Underground was filmed in this abandoned town in 2018. The direction, Michael Bay was fascinated by the lure of the so called ghost town in Ras Al Khaimah. It is an extremely versatile location that helped the director to shoot scenes set in different parts of the world in this small town. There is heaviness in the air at night and film staff was warned not roam about on their own. Another Emirati horror movie Djinn was shot in this location in 2013.

Since, it was a fishing village, most residents of this town used to be fisherman. The buildings in the town include shops, schools and homes, a fortress for defense purposes, a small market and mosques. Most houses have vegetation growing through the broken roof. The town also has a Palace which was also reportedly deserted by its inhabitants. According to rumors they were tormented by paranormal activities such as furniture being thrown around and faces appearing at windows.


Curious visitors coming through to learn about the fascinating ghost town are often warned about snakes. The abandoned ghost town of Ra Al Khaimah has become home to saw-scaled vipers. The broken and crumpled houses in the town depict an ominous presence in the vicinity which never lets anybody wander around for too long.
